Smoke alarms are required by law to be fitted in all residential properties in all states of Australia, with some variations in the needed type and location. New legislation has been enacted in Queensland since the 1st of January 2022. This legislation directs that interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms in QLD must be in all bedrooms, in hallways that connect bedrooms with the rest of the dwelling and on every level. This applies to all domestic dwellings leased and sold in Brisbane and the broader state of Queensland.
The new state legislation for Queensland requires all homes to install interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms in every bedroom, hallways, and level by 2027. While there is substantial time to implement this, the new builds and the sold properties must already comply.
